- Enhanced Portrait Mode Photos: The improved depth mapping provided by LiDAR also benefits portrait mode photography. The edge detection is more accurate, resulting in a more natural-looking bokeh effect. The separation between the subject and the background is cleaner and less artificial.
- Potential for 3D Scanning Applications: While still in its early stages, LiDAR opens up possibilities for 3D scanning. There are a few apps available that allow you to scan objects and spaces, creating 3D models. The accuracy and detail are decent, although further development is needed.
Disadvantages
- Limited App Support: The biggest drawback is the limited number of apps that truly take advantage of the LiDAR sensor. While AR applications are improving, many apps still don't offer specific enhancements for LiDAR-equipped devices. This means you're not always getting the full benefit of the technology.
- Increased Cost: Phones with LiDAR sensors generally come with a higher price tag. This can be a significant barrier for some users, especially considering that the benefits are not always immediately apparent or widely utilized.
- Battery Drain: Using LiDAR-intensive applications, such as 3D scanning, can noticeably drain the battery. This is something to consider if you plan on using the LiDAR sensor frequently.
- Scanning limitations: The size of scanned objects/scenes are limited. Bigger areas cannot be scanned due to processing limitations.

Overall, having LiDAR on an Android phone offers tangible benefits, especially for augmented reality and photography.
